I haven't abandoned you!

Ugh stupid life gets in the way of everything fun doesn't it? I have been woefully neglectful of this blog and my crypto activities over the winter. But now that a job has been found and we are sorting out CPRS, I can devote my summer to crypto activities. With Jen my fellow intrepid explorer, we shall comb the wilds of Illinois and see what (if any) creatures lurk there. Keep and eye on this space, more details as they come in! :D

It's the most wonderful time of the year....

Ah October. The crisp weather, falling leaves, jack-o-lanterns, and more ghosts than you can shake a stick at... I don't know where they all go the rest of the year but everybody has one in October. Hopefully the beasties will follow suit, it's been very un-crypto around here for a while. >:(

Alligators in the Chicago River

Last Wednesday a baby alligator was pulled out of the North Branch of the Chicago River not too far from where I live. He was 3 feet long and was probably dumped into the river by irresponsible pet owners when he got too big. Fortunately "Alligator Bob" a volunteer with the Chicago Herpetological Society, rescued him and will be relocating him to safe place in Florida. Apparently Bob has rescued about 70 alligators from the waters of
Illinois and Wisconsin in the last 20 years! I wish I'd gotten a chance to see him swimming around out there, but it angers me that people look at pets like these as disposable once the novelty wears off or they get to difficult too handle.

More of the story here

And this from the BBC with video of the little guy and stories of alligators wandering the streets in New York and Massachusetts.

And finally a B movie from the Eighties about giant killer alligators in the sewers of Chicago. That's going in the Netflix queue!
